UNUSUAL TRAFFIC
Investigate
a traffic spike.
Use reports and filters to examine bursts of requests and the IP addresses behind them.
Use patterns as evidence.
A burst of requests can indicate unusual or unwanted activity, but a spike alone does not establish that an attack occurred. http Logs Viewer helps investigate requests; it does not prevent or mitigate an attack.
Investigate the time window
1. Generate Hits Each Day to locate unusual activity.
2. Use Hits per Hour to narrow down the time window.
3. Inspect requested URLs, status codes, and user agents.
4. Run Error IP Addresses statistics to see requests resulting in 4xx or 5xx responses.
5. Filter by relevant IP addresses and compare their requests.
Use the results to guide your response
Review expensive resources, recurring request patterns, and affected endpoints. Use your server, hosting, and security tools to choose a response based on the evidence.
There’s a story
in every log file.
